ATTORNEY
LEADS FIRM IN OFFERING A SENSIBLE APPROACH TO DIVORCE
For
years, Keila Gilbert's work in legal profession brought her face to face
with the excessive emotional and financial burdens brought on through
traditional divorce proceedings. Going through her own divorce was the
catalyst that drove her to create an alternative approach.
First, she brought together a group of professionals who are generally
needed during divorce. Together they took an honest look at what was wrong
with the system. From there, the Alpha Center for Divorce Mediation was
formed in 1994 with Gilbert as president. With offices throughout the
Philadelphia region, the practical Alpha Center approach combines the
work of legal, psychology and accounting professional who work as a team
to help reduce the financial and emotional burdens of divorce for couples
and their children.
The six-step* Alpha Process offers clients an initial consultation, meeting
with a child psychologist to help design a parenting plan to meet the
children's needs, meeting with an attorney who informs them about the
laws and helps them come to a fair agreement on legal and economic issues;
a review with an accountant who helps them minimize tax liabilities, and
finally, preparation of documents needed to complete the divorce.
Gilbert's clients view her firm's common sense approach as an easier way
through a difficult time. Divorce is usually hard on everybody, Gilbert
said. With the Alpha Process, couples and children don't suffer as much
and they spend a lot less money. This puts them in a better position to
move forward with their lives.
