The “Seasons” of Divorce
Throughout my 25 years of helping clients through the divorce transition, I have studied many aspects of this challenging time of life. Many people are surprised to hear about the “trends” I have observed throughout my divorce mediation practice.
One of the most interesting trends is that there are high and low seasons for initiating divorce. The highest season for divorce filings comes with every “New Year”. This is the season when my own divorce began as it is for most people who enter our divorce mediation program. The holidays are behind you and you are resolved to end the turmoil of the past years and get a fresh start.
The next highest season for divorce is the “Spring Fever” divorce season we are encountering presently. Of course the “renewal” that comes with spring is a partial cause; however, these divorces most often involve parents with school age children. They are nearing the end of the school year and want to make sure that everything gets settled before their children return to school in the fall.
These trends do not apply to divorce litigation clients whose higher levels of fear, anger and anxiety fuel “reactions” to divorce rather than “responses”. They are subject to the court system that doesn’t allow them to control the timing or outcome of their divorce. Those wise individuals who choose to enter Alpha Center’s divorce mediation program have much more control of both the timing and outcome of their divorce.
Although our phones are ringing a lot these days, we are available to help anyone who wants to save money, time and stress in their divorce. It is always best to maintain “control” for yourself and your children by taking Alpha Center for Divorce Mediation’s sensible approach to divorce.
Keila M. Gilbert, Attorney-Mediator, founded Alpha Center for Divorce Mediation. Alpha Center has helped clients lower the cost, time and stress of their divorce.
