Taking Care of Yourself During Divorce
Blog
There are three things that challenge our minds and bodies during divorce: Stress, Stress, and more Stress. We become so absorbed in navigating these rough waters that we often make them rougher by not taking the time and focus to care for ourselves mentally and physically.
Research has shown that the stress of divorce can have a profound effect on our physical health including a significant deterioration of our immune systems and even a greater risk of cancer.
Stress also assaults our minds leading to anxiety, depression, and sleep deprivation. Drug and alcohol problems are often exacerbated as a result of divorce stress.
That is all of the bad news. Here is the good news: There are wonderful resources available to help us manage stress before, during, and after divorce. You can check out the Therapist and Wellness resources on our Professional Directory at www.AlphaResourceCenter.com or call our Outreach Coordinator at 1-800-310-9085 for a specific recommendation. Everything is confidential so take this opportunity to keep your mind and body healthy. Ask any of your professional mediators at any step in the Alpha program to get a recommendation for self-care.
